“My story for the month of October is a great one! As I am new here in this position I have been learning all kinds of new things! One of the tasks I have been asked to take charge of is the 21st Century Scholar Program. With a lot of research, Zoom meetings and talking with fellow employees I am now a lot more comfortable with meeting with students regarding their scholarship.
Currently, I am meeting with all of the Junior students who are 21st Century Scholars. I recently called one student to my office to chat with her about the requirements she needed to meet for the scholarship. This student is a foster child and is very special to me. When she came to my office I asked her if she was aware that she was a scholar and she had no idea! She literally jumped up and down in my office and was screaming with joy. Joyful tears of excitement followed for us both! We can now stay in touch and ensure that she is prepared for college and understands how the 21st Century Scholar program works.
I have talked to a lot of kids regarding this scholarship and have not had a reaction like that with anyone. It made my heart so happy to have made this sweet girl’s day. I thought to myself, this is what helping kids is about. That moment when something so special happens that just makes your job worthwhile. I am so happy to be in this position to help these kids and make their future brighter!”
