Teaching the Impact of our Actions

“Coming back from winter break, students can have a hard time readjusting to the everyday school schedule. I had a teacher ask me if I would be willing to help a student get caught up on some assignments he hadn’t finished; he was having some behavior issues in the classroom and needed to finish his work during recess. When I brought him to my office, I explained to him good and bad consequences. The bad consequence for not getting his work done in class was having to do it during recess. I then explained that there are also good consequences when we do the things we need to do. Even though it can be difficult, good consequences tend to follow. The student heard what I said and finished up all of his work, allowing him to participate in the afternoon activities his teacher planned that day.”
