School Partnerships: Nettle Creek Hagerstown Elementary

Care packages stuffed with snacks and other requested items are making their way to parents of Hagerstown students stationed in Iraq. After learning about the conditions faced by the soldier-father of one of her students, Debby Brogan, 2nd grade teacher, began planning a supply drive with the help of Communities In Schools Site Coordinator Ann Baumer. In May, families sent donations of beef jerky, phone cards, cookies, candy, chips, deodorant, razors, lip balm, foot powder and other requested items to school as part of a school-wide service project at Hagerstown Elementary. As items flooded in, Hagerstown Cub Scout Pack 3 was called on for assistance. After school on Friday, May 16, scouts sorted the items while parents packed the boxes and filled out the tedious customs forms. 25 boxes were packed full and hauled to the post office to begin their journey overseas. Hagerstown Elementary School paid for the shipping.
