Brand New Goals
Fairview site coordinator Lee Ann Goeke saw some progress in “Kyle’s” behavior as she worked with him over the last school year. But in her view, he still had a long way to go. When the new school year started she was surprised to find that the summer had allowed some of the things she and Kyle had talked about the previous year to sink in. Last year, he had a problem with his temper. This year, when he was deliberately tripped on the playground, he notified his teacher instead of becoming irate. “I used the skills you gave me,” Kyle told Lee Ann. “I realized I was getting mad and was able to stop it.” Now that his coping skills are up and running he’s set some brand new goals: “I want to do early college and pass to middle school,” he proudly announced.
