Because “Joe” didn’t have the school supplies he needed, he was unprepared for class every day. His teacher told him to see CIS coordinator Renee Morris and ask for help. But asking for help can be hard. So, instead of asking, Joe told Renee how things were going and what he did on his spring break. When he saw she was interested he talked some more and then, suddenly, asking her for school supplies wasn’t so hard. “Really, pick out what I need?” was his astonished response when Renee opened her school supply box. A week later, he popped into Renee’s office to tell her he’d gotten an A+ on a science poster using the colored pencils she’d given him. And he brought a friend who also needed supplies. “Don’t be afraid to ask Mrs. Morris,” he told his friend. “She helps everyone and always makes you feel good.”
